Diamond is the hardest natural material. That is quite a title: diamonds score a 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, a scale that ranges from 1, which is the softest and includes materials like talc, all the way to a 10. It is the molecular structure of diamonds that makes them so hard, with the carbon atoms arranged in a strong, tetrahedral structure, making diamond the least compressible and stiffest substance. In fact, diamonds can only be scratched or damaged by other diamonds; it this natural hardness which makes diamond ideal for polishing tools and industrial cutting, such as military materials like airplane components and armour. So, at least, if you decide to buy a diamond engagement ring, you wont have to worry about it getting scratched. However, although diamond is very hard, it is relatively brittle. As a result it splits along its crystal cleavage planes when receiving a certain impact.
* Will never fade. While some other colored and treated wedding rings may fade in color, a ceramic wedding ring won't. This is especially significant for those who want a black wedding ring.
Among the Anglo-Normans, the ring was always worn on the middle finger of the right hand, while in the latter part of the seventeenth century the wedding-ring was often worn on the thumb. The Quakers reject the ring as a remnant of Pagan superstition, and in the time of the Commonwealth the Puritans endeavored to abolish it for the same reason.
If she is absolutely drooling over understated elegance then your choice should unanimously be the simple engagement rings. These are generally simple bands that are brought together by a classic solitaire or a three stone ring. For the uninitiated, the latter are 3 equally sized, diamonds joined together on one ring. This kind of design goes well with any attire and can be worn to work too. It also goes well with the wedding ring. The stones are generally white or off white but sometimes can be blue, black, champagne, green, pink, white or yellow. The choice is yours to make.
